A little kindness goes a long way! At ZTS Infotech Pvt Ltd., we’re humbled to have served meals to 300+ people, groceries to 200+ families, and clothes to 187 women & 134 children in Rohanda.
Kolkata, India, November 21, 2024: On a chilly November morning (November 09, 2024), as the sun rose over the fields and brick kilns of Rohanda, we, the team at ZTS Infotech Pvt Ltd, gathered with a mission close to our hearts. The air was thick with excitement and purpose. It was our Annual CSR event, the “Feed Me” program—a day we’d planned for months, knowing that for many, it would be more than just a meal; it would be a rare moment of comfort, warmth, and hope.
As we arrived, families working in the local brick kilns greeted us with shy smiles and curiosity. These families work hard, often from sunrise to sunset, making bricks under the open sky. Their children, some too young to be in school, watched from nearby, their eyes wide with anticipation. We knew that these families lived with few comforts, and many struggled to afford even basic meals. That’s why we came prepared—with bags of food, groceries, warm blankets, medicines, and school supplies.
Our Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Anirban Das, believes strongly in the power of giving. He often reminds us, “When we give, we create a ripple of kindness. By feeding others, we spread hope, and that hope has the power to change lives.” And on that day, those words felt especially meaningful. We were here not only to give material items but also to assure these families that they were not forgotten and that there were people who cared.
The “Feed Me” event wasn’t just about charity; it was also about understanding. Hunger is a daily challenge for many families in India. The Global Hunger Index ranks India at 105th out of 127 countries (with level of hunger that is serious, Source: Global Hunger Index Report, 2024), meaning millions of people, including children, don’t have enough to eat. Across the country, about 200 million people face food insecurity (Source: U.S. International Development Finance Corporation), and nearly 38% of children under five suffer from malnutrition (Source: NCBI Study) which prevents them from growing strong and healthy.
For these children, the effects of hunger go beyond just feeling hungry. They grow up facing challenges in school, and they’re often sick, making it even harder for their families to break the cycle of poverty. Seeing their reality up close, we thought about the ancient wisdom of the sages: “If you have enough to eat while others are hungry, you are feeding on their hunger.” Those words remind us of our duty to help others whenever we can.
As we unloaded food and supplies, we were reminded of the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, the holy book filled with guidance on living a life of purpose and compassion. The Gita speaks about Nishkama Karma, or selfless action —” Doing good without expecting anything in return” (The Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 17, Verse 20) . This idea has become a guiding principle for us at ZTS Infotech Pvt Ltd. We believe in giving without asking, in reaching out to those in need simply because it’s the right thing to do.
Our director, Mr. Anirban Das, captures this beautifully when he says, “The joy of giving, of bringing smiles to others, is a reward in itself.” And so, with a spirit of giving, we prepared to share not only food but also the warmth of human connection with the families at Rohanda.
With the guidance of Mr. Anirban Das, our team spread out to hand over packages to each family. In these packages, we included freshly prepared delicious meals, nutritious groceries, and basic essentials like winter clothes, blankets, medicines, and school supplies. As we distributed the items, we saw the children’s eyes light up at the sight of new notebooks and pencils—simple items that represented a chance to learn and grow.
For these families, getting a full meal or warm clothing isn’t a charity. Many of them face tough winters without adequate protection, and they often work long hours just to make ends meet. Seeing their gratitude made us realize that this wasn’t just about food; it was about dignity, comfort, and the assurance that they were not alone in their struggles.
As we gathered around to serve hot meals, something magical happened. There was laughter, there were stories, and there was a sense of togetherness that went beyond words. We fed over 200 people that day—children, mothers, fathers, and grandparents. For some, it was the first time in a while that they had eaten a hot, nutritious meal.
The joy on their faces filled us with a sense of purpose and gratitude. We thought of the quote from the Bhagavad Gita: “A gift is pure when it is given from the heart to the right person at the right time and place, and when we expect nothing in return.” (Source: The Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 17, Verses 20-22) It was a reminder that true giving comes from the heart, without expecting praise or rewards.
As the day came to an end, our MD and CEO, Mr. Anirban Das shared his vision for the future. He hopes to see more people stepping forward to fight hunger, support education, and provide healthcare to those in need. His words stayed with us: “We’ll keep working hard to fight hunger and support families… When a community comes together, that’s when real change happens!”
Mr. Anirban Das envisions more than just one-day campaigns. In the future, we hope to organize healthcare drives, continue educational support, and offer more frequent food distributions. His vision is to create a lasting impact, building a stronger, kinder community that uplifts everyone in it.
Bottom Lines:
That day at Rohanda, we saw firsthand how a simple meal could mean so much. It wasn’t just about feeding people; it was about giving them hope and showing them they are seen, valued, and supported. The great sage and philosopher Swami Vivekananda reminds us, “It is our privilege to be allowed to be charitable, for only so can we grow”
(Source: The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Volume 7). This teaching reminded us that our actions, no matter how small, can bring meaning and joy to others—and to ourselves.
At ZTS Infotech Pvt Ltd, under the guidance of Mr. Anirban Das, we are committed to continuing this journey of giving, spreading kindness, and creating ripples of change. Because sometimes, a small act of kindness can light up someone’s life—and inspire others to do the same.
